Kevin is the Managing Partner of the Halifax office. He has practised law since 1985 and was awarded his Queen’s Counsel in 2004. He advises private and public sector clients on litigation, employment & labour, municipal, and regulatory matters.
Kevin has an extensive civil litigation practice that involves commercial disputes, insurance coverage, estate litigation, tort and contract claims. Recent notable cases include: Maritime Steel and Foundries Ltd. v. Economical Mutual Insurance Co., 2011 NSSC 151. He has argued cases in all levels of court in Nova Scotia and before arbitrators and administrative tribunals, including the Nova Scotia Utility and Review Board.
Kevin practices in all areas of employment & labour law, representing management, employers and employees. He has a particular interest in wrongful dismissal and the enforcement of non-solicitation and non-competition clauses. His expertise includes representation in grievance and disciplinary proceedings before arbitrators, external boards, and the courts. He is recognized by Best Lawyers Canada as a leading lawyer in Employment Law.
Kevin is head of the firm's Municipal Practice Group in Halifax. His areas of expertise include municipal procedure, planning and development, validity of by-laws, municipal contract and liability issues. His special interests include the recovery of capital cost charges, utility regulation, and solid waste management issues. Notable decisions include: Halifax (Regional Municipality) v. Ed DeWolfe Trucking Ltd. 2007 NSCA 89; Leah and Jeffrey Rissesco v. Municipality of West Hants and Falls Lake Resort Inc., NSUARB-PL-09-03; and Halifax Regional Water Commission application for a Capital Cost Contribution charge for Bedford West, 2012 NSUARB 139 M04818.
Kevin is a member of the Halifax Chamber of Commerce Municipal Government Affairs Committee; he is also a former Governor of NSCAD University.
