Kevin is the Managing Partner of the Halifax office and a member of the regional firm leadership team. He was awarded his Queen’s Counsel in 2004. He advises private and public sector clients on civil litigation, employment & labour, municipal, and regulatory matters.Kevin is recognized by Best Lawyers in Canada 2015 for his practice in the areas of Labour and Employment Law, Administrative and Public Law, and Corporate and Commercial Litigation. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the National Youth Orchestra Canada (NYOC).
Kevin has a broad civil litigation practise that involves commercial disputes, insurance coverage, tort and contract claims. He recently represented a regional municipality in an arbitration concerning enforcement of a settlement agreement for provision of solid waste management services. He has represented a national restaurateur in a franchisee dispute. He advised a Nova Scotia steel manufacturer on a claim for business losses resulting from a foundry fire.
Practising in all areas of employment & labour law, Kevin has a particular interest in wrongful dismissal and the enforcement of non-solicitation, non-competition and confidentiality clauses. He recently represented a senior executive defending breach of confidentiality allegations by a major ship yard. His experience include representation in grievance and disciplinary proceedings before arbitrators, external boards, and the courts.
Kevin is chair of the firm’s municipal group. His areas of expertise include planning and development, municipal governance, validity of by-laws, municipal contract and liability issues. His work includes the recovery of capital cost charges, utility regulation and solid waste management issues. Kevin is lead counsel to the Union of Nova Scotia Municipalities.
