Cox & Palmer is dedicated to providing a comprehensive education plan for articled clerks and summer students, which meets and exceeds the standards set forth by the province’s Law Society. The goal of our Articling Clerks Program, is to create an experience that will allow our students and articled clerks to become successful and satisfied lawyers. At Cox & Palmer, we pride ourselves on offering a learning experience that will be rewarding, collegial and dynamic.
We will be accepting applications from first-year law students for 2014 summer positions, as well as applications from second-year law students for 2015 - 2016 articling positions.
Application and Interview Process
Representatives from Prince Edward Island will conduct interviews the University of New Brunswick Law School and at Dalhousie University Schulich School of Law in January 2014. Interviews with students from other law schools across Canada are scheduled in January as applications are received. Offers for positions are made the week following interviews in January.

- Law school marks (unofficial copy accepted - request official copy when available, if necessary)
Summer Student Experience
Cox & Palmer employs first and second-year students with a summer program that is similar to that of an articled clerk, including regular rotations. From the outset, summer students are immersed in on-going cases and matters and are involved in a wide range of our lawyers’ activities.
Articled clerks with Cox & Palmer are assigned a Principal; a partner in the firm. The Principal acts as the clerk's mentor and works exclusively with the articled clerk during the period of articles and ensures compliance with the Practice Checklist provided by the Law Society of PEI. We take a hands-on approach by involving our clerks in all facets of a client’s file. Our Article Program is done on a rotation basis and in each rotation, the clerk receives feedback from the lawyers working in the assigned rotation.
Each summer student is assigned a mentor who meets with the student on a regular basis and provides guidance throughout the summer.
The Recruitment Committee offers a comprehensive orientation and education program for articled clerks and summer students. Our focus is on the development of core competencies through education, experience, mentoring, coaching and observation.
To ensure that summer students and articled clerks benefit from Cox & Palmer's extensive range of paper and electronic resources, on-going education and legal research seminars are provided to ensure that you learn the "tips and tricks" required to identify issues and research effectively.
We offer articled clerks and summer students a competitive salary. Articled clerks receive a benefits package that includes payment of the Bar Admission Course fees, Canadian Bar Association fees, and salary continuation while attending the Bar Admission Course, as well as paid coverage on the firm’s medical plan.
